The RDL RU-FN connects RDL Format-A audio sources to a Dante network. A single Format-A RJ45 input accepts signal pairs A, B, and C, converting all three into separate Dante channels. A fourth Dante channel is supplied by an auxiliary line input, allowing one interface to place four analog audio channels onto the network.
This configuration is particularly useful when existing Format-A active or passive senders need to feed a Dante-based system. The auxiliary input can accommodate an unbalanced or balanced line source, providing an additional path for equipment that does not use Format-A.
The RU-FN combines Format-A connectivity, auxiliary input control, analog-to-digital conversion, and Dante transmission in one unit. It is compatible with a wide range of RDL Format-A active and passive senders and can power remote Format-A senders through its Format-A input jack. This reduces the number of separate interfaces and power connections needed at the source location.
Format-A sources connect through an RDL Format-A RJ45 jack using CATx cable. The network connection uses a separate RJ45 connector with Ethernet Link and Speed indicators and operates at 100 Mbps. Dante serves as the digital audio Ethernet protocol. Network System and Sync LEDs provide visible confirmation of network operating status during installation and normal use.
The auxiliary input uses a balanced, detachable terminal block. Front-panel gain adjustment supports level setup, while a dual-LED VU meter provides immediate level indication for the auxiliary source. Three additional signal LEDs show audio activity for Format-A pairs A, B, and C. The RU-FN operates from 24 Vdc at 100 mA plus connected loads, with power available through a power jack or detachable terminal block. Recommended supplies are the PS-24AS for the USA and PS-24AX for international use. The enclosure is equipped for rack or surface mounting.
The RU-FN delivers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz within ±0.5 dB and supports 24-bit conversion at 44.1 or 48 kHz, with 48 kHz identified as the default. Its audio operating reference is 18 dBFS equals +4 dBu, with more than 18 dB of headroom above +4 dBu. RDL analog filtering is incorporated to support the unit’s audio performance.
The defining feature of the RU-FN is its ability to translate all three audio pairs carried by one RDL Format-A connection into independently available Dante channels while adding a fourth network channel from an auxiliary source. This arrangement preserves the multi-pair capability of Format-A cabling instead of treating the connection as a single audio feed.
Its 11 indicators cover power input, power output, three Format-A audio signals, the two-stage auxiliary VU meter, Dante system and synchronization status, and Ethernet link and speed. These indicators place essential source, network, and power information directly on the unit. Its 5.8-inch-wide, 1.7-inch-high, and 5.2-inch-deep enclosure supports installation where rack or surface mounting is required.
