The RDL RU-BNFP is a bi-directional network interface designed to exchange audio between RDL Format-A connections, an auxiliary line connection, and a Dante network. In the network-send direction, it converts Format-A audio from pairs A, B, and C into three Dante channels, while a balanced or unbalanced auxiliary line input supplies the fourth channel. In the return direction, three Dante signals feed Format-A output pairs A, B, and C, and a fourth Dante signal feeds the balanced auxiliary line output at a nominal +4 dBu.
This model is suited to systems that need to integrate existing or newly installed RDL Format-A sources and receivers with Dante network audio. It provides a direct approach when three Format-A audio pairs and one auxiliary source must be placed on a Dante network while also providing corresponding network-to-Format-A and network-to-auxiliary conversion. Compatibility with a wide range of RDL Format-A active and passive senders and receivers makes it useful for expanding a Format-A installation without replacing its established CATx cabling and RJ45 connections.
The RU-BNFP combines four-channel analog-to-network and network-to-analog conversion in one compact unit. Three channels are dedicated to Format-A pairs A, B, and C, while the fourth handles an auxiliary line input or balanced auxiliary output. The auxiliary input includes front-panel gain adjustment and a dual-LED VU meter, allowing its operating level to be checked at the interface. Separate audio signal LEDs indicate activity for the three Format-A source pairs and the four received Dante signals. Network system, synchronization, Ethernet link, and Ethernet speed indicators provide additional operational visibility.
Format-A connections use RJ45 jacks and CATx cable for straightforward connection to compatible modules. The unit includes one RDL Format-A input and three separate RDL Format-A output jacks. The auxiliary input and output use detachable terminal blocks, while the Dante network connects through a 100 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet port with link and speed indicators. The RU-BNFP can operate from a 24 Vdc supply rated at 150 mA plus connected loads or from Class 0 IEEE 802.3af PoE. An external 24 Vdc supply can power connected Format-A modules through the RJ45 jacks. When PoE is used, it powers the Format-A input and primary Format-A output RJ45 jacks and supports normal or hot-standby operation. The chassis is equipped for either rack mounting or surface mounting.
High-resolution 24-bit analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion supports 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz sample rates, with 48 kHz as the default. The specified audio operating reference is 18 dBFS equals +4 dBu. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within ±0.5 dB, with THD+N below 0.1 percent and noise below +4 dBu specified at less than -75 dB. CMRR exceeds 90 dB from 50 Hz to 120 Hz on any input pair, while headroom above +4 dBu exceeds 18 dB. The balanced auxiliary input has an impedance greater than 20 kΩ. The balanced auxiliary output provides a nominal +4 dBu level with an impedance of 150 Ω balanced or 75 Ω unbalanced. RDL analog filtering is incorporated to support the unit’s audio performance.
Unlike a single-purpose network input or output endpoint, the RU-BNFP brings together Format-A transmission, auxiliary line interfacing, Dante conversion, and power distribution capabilities. It can send four local audio sources to Dante while returning four network signals to three independently accessible Format-A output jacks and one balanced auxiliary output. Its 18 indicators cover power input, four power outputs, seven audio signals, the two-stage auxiliary VU meter, Dante system and synchronization status, and Ethernet link and speed. This combination gives installers immediate confirmation of audio, network, and power conditions from the hardware.
The RU-BNFP provides a focused bridge between RDL Format-A infrastructure and four-channel Dante network audio. Its three-pair Format-A architecture, dedicated auxiliary channel, 24-bit conversion, selectable sample-rate support, detachable balanced connections, PoE capability, and rack- or surface-mount design make it a comprehensive interface for installations requiring bi-directional Format-A and Dante integration.
